Frequently Asked Questions on learning French through immersion

A teddy bear raises his hand to ask questions about how the language immersion programs work (duration, level, activities, prices, etc.)

Here are some questions and answers that may be helpful. Feel free to ask me if you have any others!

What is the difference between a traditional French lesson and an immersion?

A traditional French lesson often follows a school‑style method: grammar, exercises, vocabulary, sometimes in groups, with little real interaction. Immersion, on the other hand, means living French. We talk, share, laugh, cook, go for walks — everything happens in French, naturally. It’s a lively experience, adapted to your interests, your level, and your pace. The purpose is not only to learn, but to speak with confidence, grow in fluency, and find joy in practice.

How long do immersions last?

Each immersion is flexible: it can be a half day, a full day, or several consecutive days, depending on your needs and availability. The idea is to create an experience adapted to you.

What is the minimum level of French required?

None! During our initial WhatsApp conversation, we’ll discuss your level of French and I’ll adapt accordingly — for example, with simpler conversation topics if you’re a beginner. Immersions are suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced learners. The goal is to progress with confidence, through enjoyable, everyday activities.

I’m shy and afraid to speak English… is immersion right for me?

Absolutely. My approach is kind and non judgmental. The goal is not to speak French perfectly, but to feel confident expressing yourself — even with mistakes. I adapt to your pace and create a relaxed environment where you can build your confidence. We might start with simple conversations over a cup of tea, and then progress naturally.

Can I come with someone who won’t be participating?

To ensure a complete immersion and support your progress, sessions are designed to take place without spectators. This creates a safe and trusting space where you can express yourself freely, without outside pressure. If you would like to be accompanied, we can discuss it together — depending on the option chosen and the type of activity, certain exceptions may be possible. What matters most is that your learning is enjoyable, real, and all about you.

Where do the immersions take place?

Immersions take place mainly in Torreilles and the surrounding area (beach, village, markets, heritage sites), as well as at my home. Activities vary depending on the option you choose, but all take place in a pleasant and inspiring setting.

Do you offer French immersion for groups?

To preserve the quality of the immersion and allow everyone to express themselves fully, I don’t offer group classes. My sessions are designed for one or two people, to encourage communication and progression.

What about children?

Immersion learning is extremely effective for children — especially when experienced as play, adventure, and discovery. I offer French immersions designed for curious, motivated children, or simply those open to the experience, even if they don’t yet speak a word of French. Each session is individual and adapted to the child’s age, level, and interests: we sing, play, tell stories, create… always in French. Parents may attend or participate depending on the child’s age and the chosen option. And of course, I’ll give you feedback after each immersion to share progress and highlights.

Are immersions accessible to people with disabilities?

I do everything I can to make immersions accessible to everyone. If you have a disability, please feel free to contact me so we can discuss your specific needs together. Some activities can be adapted, and I can adjust the immersion to ensure a comfortable, enriching experience that respects your constraints. Above all, the goal is for you to experience French at your own pace, in a supportive and environment.

How much does it cost?

Prices vary depending on the chosen option: Half-day: €60 Full day: €100 Immersive weekend (coming soon): price to be confirmed A discounted rate is available for immersions over consecutive days. See the Terms and Conditions page for more details.

What should I bring?

Just a small notebook — handy for jotting down notes even while walking — and a pen. For the half day option, a snack and drinks are included (tea, coffee, fruit juice, etc.). For the full day option, lunch and drinks are also included. My questionnaire will ask about your food preferences and any allergies.

How should I dress?

Comfort first! Bring suitable beach shoes, a coat if necessary… because we will certainly be going for a walk.

Can I offer a French immersion to someone else?

Yes, and it’s a great idea! I offer personalised gift vouchers for a half day, a full day, or even a weekend of immersion. It’s a brilliant way to encourage someone to start learning French.

Do you have a French or French-Canadian accent?

I have a French accent with a hint of French Canadian accent!
